Captains Vernon and Anne
January 2010
Vernon and Anne would like to present their first report to you at the commencement of their year as your Captains.
We wish Junior Captain Jonny Murray success in his year, and we would like to wish Madeline Thompson and Simon Taylor a successful year as Vice Captains.
We would also like to welcome the new committee members, Kath Belt, Dave Ryan and Fergus Wiseman.
Captains Drive In
January 3rd arrived, the weather was minus 4.5 degrees and the sun was shining.
We were delighted that so many people had braved the weather to come up and join us for our “Drive In”, and we would like to thank everyone for their good luck wishes for 2010. The photos are available at the Photo Gallery.
On the tee, the Vice Captains presented the Captains with some rather unusual clubs, that were made by Graham Tonge, in his usual inimitable style, and we made brave attempts to hit a ball with them.
We wonder, where on earth Graham gets his ideas from for the trick clubs, but have to smile as they seem to get more bizarre each year.
Our thanks go, as ever, to Graham for organising the Drive In. He put so much time and effort into making this day special for us.
The battle between the Captains and the Past Captains began, as usual, with a shotgun start.
The prizes for guessing where the Captains golf balls landed and nearest the pin on the 9th hole were presented and then came the traditional presentation of the putter to the winning team. - Victory went to the Captains team – 11 matches to 9.
Charity
Dennis Keight gave an excellent presentation on behalf of “The Will to Work” workshops, which is our chosen local charity, and is based in Frodsham.
They are delighted that we have chosen to help them in 2010.
Carvery
This year we decided to try a new idea, and introduced a carvery to the proceedings.
This was a resounding success, enjoyed by all, and hopefully will now be a feature for following drive ins.
Competitions
The first round of the PC Downing winter Knockout was due to commence on Saturday 9th January, but had to be postponed due to severe low temperatures and snow still covering the ground, from significant heavy snowfalls earlier in the week.
Also the first ball competiton of the year could not take place.
Finally, we would just like to wish you all Great Golfing 2010
