Matchplay Ladder Winter 2010-11
A New Opportunity for Frodsham Golf Club Members
Singles Match Play Ladder (men) & Singles Match Play Ladder (ladies)
The ladder was started on 1st October. All players who signed up top play have agreed to play at least one match per month from October 2010 to March 2011.
The latest Standings are: Men's Ladder & Ladies' Ladder.
BACKGROUND
Some of our lower handicap golfers, particularly those involved in inter-club knock outs, and others, would like to increase the opportunity to play singles match play on a regular basis and therefore improve ability. The idea of these ladders has the full support of the FGC Committee including the owner and club professional. It is also hoped this will lead to FGC being involved in a local men’s Scratch League.
PROPOSED RULES
APPLICATION TO JOIN
- Providing there is sufficient interest, there will be two ladders, one for men and one for ladies.
- The ladders are open to FGC adult 7-day members with active handicaps.
- Entry to the ladder is for its duration (6 months in the first instance as part of a trial run). Entry is free. (There are no prizes at least for the trial – only bragging rights!).
- Application to join the ladder is by signing one of the forms on or near the club notice board(s) by Monday 20 September. Active contact details must be made available in due course, although these will not be for public display.
LADDER FORMAT
- At the start, applicants will be placed on the ladder will in exact handicap order (eg 6.3 above 6.4) with the lowest handicap at the top of the ladder, down to the highest at the bottom. (Recent playing records will be used to differentiate between those sharing the same exact handicap).
- The ladder will be split into divisions, again based on handicap, if the number of players warrants this (eg for men Division 1 – plus to 12; Division 2 – 13 to 20; Division 3 – 21 to 28).
PLAYING MATCHES
- All matches will be played off full handicaps under the Rules of Golf (and FGC Local Rules) relating to Singles Match Play.
- The process of setting up a match is by a) making a challenge, usually to someone above you in the ladder, or b) accepting a challenge, usually from someone below you; either way the challenge can only come from within, say, 6* places of your own position on the ladder. (*The precise number will depend on the number in the ladder).
- Each player will play six times during the trial – ie one match per month – and, depending on ladder position, is expected to make 3 challenges and accept 3 challenges.
- The challenge must be played within one month of the challenge being made.
- Players must wait at least two months before playing the same player again.
RECORDING THE RESULT
- If the higher ranked player beats the lower ranked player, standings remain the same.
- If the lower ranked player beats the higher ranked player s/he replaces her/him; the loser falls back one place.
- The ladder itself will be mounted on the wall in the appropriate changing room. After a match, the ladder should be adjusted as necessary, and a simple results form will must be completed.
THE RESULT REGISTER
The results will be registered to ensure the ladder is correct and running smoothly, to help sort out any problems or disputes, and may well be used to help in the process of selecting club teams.
