BOOKING PROCEDURES FOR WINTER MONTHLY STABLEFORD AND MEDAL COMPETITIONS
Entry Sheets for the Winter Monthly Medal & Stableford will open 1 week prior to the Monthly Stableford.
Members may book themselves and up to 2 other players in the same time slot.
Members can only enter both the Monthly Medal & Stableford if places are still available in either the
Stableford or the Medal on the Thursday prior to the Stableford or Medal competition,
members may then enter both competitions.
Entries will close at 5:30 pm on the Friday prior to the Stableford competition.
CHANGE TO WINTER MEDAL COMPETITIONS
Medal competitions from October to March will become Qualifying competitions unless the weather conditions determine that the Greenkeeping staff are unable to provide a course within the CONGU qualifying rules. In this case, players will be told when collecting their scorecard.
This change is to bring us in line with the new guidelines from CONGU Unified Handicapping System (2008 – 2011) and the changes in the computer software.
During these months, the men will play from the yellow tees (SSS 69) and the ladies will play from the red tees (SSS 71). Therefore, there will be a two shot difference which will be added to the ladies score when the Competition score sheets are produced.
The use of preferred lies does not render the competition non-qualifying.
Handicaps will be adjusted by the computer software after each Qualifying competition.
COMPETITION BOOKING CHANGE
With effect from April 4th 2009, provided there is availability, members with a current handicap may now book themselves into a Competition on the day.
INACTIVE HANDICAPS IN MAJOR COMPETITIONS
The Committee has decided that Members with Inactive Handicaps(i) will not be allowed entry into Major Competitions in 2010 (Members with Inactive Handicaps may play in Medals.
Medal Cards submitted will qualify as one card submitted under CONGU Rule 26.3 and 16.2 to regain a full CONGU handicap
If you are in any doubt as to whether your handicap will be Inactive in January 2010, please ask a member of the Committee. Clubs will be permitted to exempt players from an Inactive Handicap in special circumstances.

ENGLISH GOLF UNION / ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF UNION ACTIVE / INACTIVE HANDICAP CHANGE
Active/Inactive Handicaps
Players will be required to have submitted 3 qualifying scores (including Supplementary Scores & 9 Hole Qualifying Competitions and Away scores) during the calendar year 2009 (not the period between annual handicap reviews) to avoid having an inactive handicap for the playing season, 2010.
NR’s will not be accepted as part of the 3 qualifying scores.
Clubs will be permitted to exempt players from an inactive (i) handicap for injury/illness that has prevented them from achieving the required number of qualifying scores during a calendar year. This will also include those players who are transferring membership who have submitted scores albeit at another Club and to golfers new to the game who are being issued with first CONGU handicap.
Players whose handicap has become inactive will be required to return three qualifying scores before the indicator is removed. Qualifying scores of less than 3 are not permitted to be carried over to the next year, i.e. no topping up of qualifying scores permitted, e.g. 1 score in the previous year and 2 in current year.
Clubs may impose an entry condition that requires an active handicap (3 previously submitted qualifying scores) for specific competitions only such as Trophy or Board events. In all other cases Clubs must allow "home" players with inactive handicaps entry to qualifying competitions in order to provide as much opportunity as possible for the removal of the inactive handicap.
An inactive handicap can still be used for social golf and those competitions for which an active handicap is not an entry condition. Scores from players with inactive handicaps will be used in the calculation of a CSS.
The requirement of 3 qualifying scores will be reviewed by EGU/EWGA during 2010 to consider if this should be increased for the following year.
The active/inactive identification of handicaps will be required as from the beginning of 2010.
Inactive handicaps will be followed by an i. Example: 12i
